Fujibayashi Misao, a count’s daughter, is in the middle of holding the funeral for her third deceased husband. There, Tomishima Hajime — a great landowner and wealthy merchant — arrives to press her for repayment of debts. In exchange for forgiving her late third husband’s debts, Misao agrees to marry Hajime. The thing is, there is a rumor surrounding Misao — a whispered curse that says “anyone who gets entangled with her will die young.” Yet Hajime pushes forward with the marriage knowing this full well. What exactly is Hajime’s purpose? What is the truth behind the “curse” that follows Misao? And where will this marriage, so heavy with backstory and secrets, ultimately lead?
